Today, I took a picture.

It is now only two weeks to go before the final deadline of my degree, and for the most of this time I will be working on my (self initiated) major project. I am creating the identity for a fictional woodland burial cooperative, as well as a small campaign encouraging people to make use of nature as a place to reflect over mortality – and life, memories and hopes for the future.

I am now at the exiting stage where the design begins to come together, but doing research for this project has been extremely interesting in itself. I will not write too much about my research here, other than that it all started with the tragic terror actions in Oslo and at Utøya last summer, and the following period of nationwide shock, grief – and strong feeling of community. A priest interviewed in the newspaper Aftenposten, mentioned the verse above (and in English below, from the First Epistle to the Corinthians) as one of the verses he used a lot after the tragedy, especially when he spent time with a family that lost their 17 year old daughter.

Religion can be very important to many people in times of loss and grief, but to allow room for different believes, I have decided to try and create an as religiously neutral design as possible for my woodland burial cooperative project. However, I have come across many beautiful verses from different religions during this project, one of which was this one.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I got these in the post the other day! I love the smell of freshly printed paper, and it is, of course, really nice to see something you have designed professionally produced. Ahh, the simple joys of a graphic designer.

I have always been a fan of art/installations that make use of light in creative ways, which is often present in Troikas work. However, I still think that Cloud, a kinetic sculpture for Heathrow terminal 5, is my favourite among Troika’s projects.

I also think the “Model for a Trunkless Tree” is pretty sweet. Notice the realistic shadow on the wall:

Hopefully business cards will come in handy next week, when I’m going up to London for a portfolio event with a bunch of other people from my course. There, the plan is to show and talk about our work to people in the industry, which I am quite looking forward to.

After a quite intense week of working on a 20-page editorial alongside my University work, everything is now sent off to the printer’s!

And i will be really disappointed if it is an april fool’s day thing. It must be real!

Otherwise, I’ve also spent some time today changing one of my freelance clients web page from a basic HTML site to a WordPress site. This again gave me some new challenges (being self taught, and all that), but at least I managed to get up something that look ok for now. So although my head feels a little bit like it’s going to explode now, I have at least had a productive day.
